“Source Code” is a taut, well written, well directed and with one one exception, well acted Sci-fi thriller, with a standout supporting performance from Vera Farmiga. The only sour notes are the not so special unconvincing CGI effects and the usual bland, boring performance from Jake Gyllenhaal, who simply can’t act and has no discernible charisma to make up for it. Gyllenhaal is a geek with a good haircut being passed off as a leading man, which he is not. He is not even a competent actor here. But fortunately for all involved, especially the audience, Gyllenhaal’s miscasting does not completely destroy the film’s credibility so “Source Code” is still a film worth seeing in spite of Gyllenhaal’s non presence and especially for Farmiga’s brilliant acting.
